FARM FRESH CREME BRUELE - Super simple & egg-ceptionally yummy

Ok this is one dessert I love - I like to order it for a treat if we are out somewhere special. The problem is... NOW I KNOW HOW EASY IT IS TO MAKE! Give it a try - there are lots of variations.  The recipe below comes out very sweet.  My first batch was for New Years Eve & my 2nd  for Valentines Day. (I love sweet but I cut down the sugar a bit and am thinking about using only 1/2 the called for amount in the next batch)  Let me know what you think!

If you Google Creme Bruele you’ll find lots of recipes & videos. Here is the basic recipe I used:
 
4-6 farm fresh yolks.  reserve whites for another dessert like meringues.  add a pinch of salt,
1 teaspoon of vanilla and then wisk in 1/2 cup sugar.  Gently wisk in 2 cups of heavy whipping cream. Pour into small oven proof dishes.  Set little dishes in larger pan/dish & pour warm water into the large dish about 1/2 way up the sides of the tiny dishes.  Carefully place into preheated oven (350^o) and cook for 30-40 minutes till set.  Let cool, then refrigerate.  When ready to serve sprinkle tops with thin coat of sugar and place under broiler or use a torch til sugar melts and glazes over.  -- my torch pix is not so good - will pop one up for you later -- they turned out great under the broiler the first time I did it. Remove quickly. Let cool just a bit then enjoy your farm fresh dessert.  Add fresh berries if you have them... I like mine plain.
                                                                                             

Note: My farm-tastic mom found creme bruele dishes for me at one of the linen/home goods store -- way cheaper than the fancy cooking stores. It even came with a torch. 

I love teaching & sharing art - it makes my heart happy.  Many of you know about my ArtBarn Afterschool gigs - where a different animal goes to school to make new friends and model for the class.  I also have the privilege of teaching 2 kindergarten art classes at an amazing private school on Fridays.  These guys knock out some awesome art as they learn about famous artist and explore some crazy cool techniques. 

I would like to share with you some super simple steps for a project I think is a KEEPER for sure.

Inspired by Jim Dine's Heart Series.  I have loved his work since college.  I was lucky enough to have an autographed poster from one of his shows... that was until my studio rabbit ate it...Only you farmer sue!

Ok - here goes.

if your kids are having trouble drawing big big hearts - go ahead and cut some out of paper for them to use as templates -- they still come out crazy cool. You can do this with crayons, marker or paints if you are brave!

1. trace or draw a BIG HEART on your page -- this project is best on BIG PAPER!  we used 12x18

2. go crazy with color.  my kids went crazy when I told them SCRIBBLING  was allowed.

3. go back with a black crayon and outline the heart and add some extra scribbles here and there

4. add your artist signature - done!

Come celebrate a Baaaah-YOU-tiful Spring day with family and friends. Seeing the sheep get sheared is very very cool and watching the sheep reintroduce themselves to each other after getting their new doo is pretty funny!  All the animals will be out for the barnyard meet & greet. The hayride will be running all day and Hand led Pony Rides will be available for $5 extra. We will have some super cute wooly art projects for friends to work on. Kids take home a hand full of wool for show and tell at school or to make their own art projects with.

Pre-Paid RSVPs are a MUST. This is a great family day or educational day for Scouts & homeschool friends.  This one always fills up fast!

NEW:  We are offering a session for 4 year old friends.  Each session needs a minimum of 8 adorable friends to make it a go.  So call some moms and lets make it happen!

Drop-Ins:  Can't make it for the full week but want to egg-sperience the farm - we have daily drop in rate of $75.

HEY CITY MOMS -- gather some girlfriends and set up a carpool to the farm - it is a blast. YOU can drop em off or stay and play with us all day!

or  if you can get 10 friends together we may be able to offer 1 more week in the city - let us know soon.

At The Farm

Ages:  5-12  ( 4s will have their own group for 1/2 days)

Time: 10am-3:00 Monday to Friday

Cost: $325  limit 15 children -- 1/2 day for younger friends available

You will help with farm chores like gathering farm fresh eggs from the henhouse,  feeding and brushing all of the animals. You will have time to meet and play with all of your new animal friends as we learn some neat facts about them. You will also create some GREAT art. Each day will feature different animals in our art projects. We will create with paint, clay, mixed media, drawing and more. Loads of art, loads of fun. Bring your camera, lunch, an extra thermos and a smile. We will have lunch on the hayride each day. Every child will have the opportunity to drive the tractor with Farmer Sue, and everyone will get a ponyride during the week. This is a fun week and fills up fast.

In The City

Ages:  5-12

Time: 10am-3:00 Monday to Friday

Cost: $325  limit 15 children --

We will have indoor and outdoor activities. Bring your lunch, camera, and a smile. You will meet, pet, hold and brush every farm animal imaginable. Each day we will meet 2 different animals, which will be featured in the project of the day. We will create with paint, clay, mixed media, drawing and more. Loads of art, loads of fun. Bring your camera, lunch and a smile.

City Camp will be held at a private home  just inside 285 near Marist Highschool (3770 Fox Glen Ct Atlanta, GA 30319)

FARM TEAM: during camp weeks we may have 1 or 2 days with outside "fieldtrippers" our camp kids will be running the show - it is great fun being in charge!

It seems there is some confusion as to when we are open. 

Here is the deal.  We are not open every single day. Our days vary during the week & during the season.  The hours are generally 10-12:30 ish.

Farmer Sue does fieldtrips & playdates during the week which are listed on the DayByDay Tab noting which ones are full & which ones have room to drop in.

We always appreciate  rsvps - but... If we have ZERO rsvps the day before - activity will be cancelled. So please check the DayByDay Tab to see that we are good to go.

If calendar says we are OPEN we will be OPEN if it says FULL or PRIVATE we can't take outside friends.

Weekends are generally reserved for private parties - which are pretty jam up as far as booking goes - in that it is the best party around town! 

We are posting 1 Saturday Morning each month as a family day that can also be used for small parties that do not wish to book a full private party.

A Family Farm Day or Barnyard Hullabaloo

will be offered each month.  These are great for family fun,  Scout activites, or if you don't need one of our big big birthday parties... you can always reserve a table at family farm or use a morning Hullabaloo date to CELEBRATE!

At each activity the animals are always out for snuggling, petting, holidng and brushing and lots of picture taking.  Farmer Sue and Miss Debbie will answer questions about the animals and tell you about each animals' job on the farm.

DON'T FORGET YOUR CAMERA!!

ALWAYS Pack a picnic  along with beverages & paper goods.  There are lots of big new picnic tables under the huge old magnolias.

• hand led pony rides are usually available on weekend events at $5 each. During the week it depends on staffing

• farm fresh eggs will be for sale when available $4 a dozen

• Farmer Sue & Miss Debbie are working on some cute crafts that celebrate each animal and will go towards the feed bill.

New this year:

• on some of our special days we will have a cool caricature artist - Darlene Lauth - whipping up pictures of you with your favorite barnyard buddy for $10 each. Darlene is an Atlanta native, raised in Decatur. She has been doing caricatures for over 24 years and LOVES working with children!
